Oh My Gareth Pugh, if I didn’t love you enough before, I love you even more now. With the beginning of a new idea, the idea of fashion video presentation, Gareth Pugh made a video collaboration with Ruth Hogben debuting his Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. The video put us into the mind of Pugh and entered us in the cult like fashion he morphed in front of our very eyes.

Don't Do it Again

Vivienne Westwood: you’re eccentric, fabulous, and you never disappointment, but come on, Pamela Anderson? Pamela Anderson is no way a fashion icon, and look at her; she’s definitely not at her best. As I clicked through the stunning runway show filled with raw cut fabrics with prints and colors that light up the room, I came to Pam and the clothes turned me off, looking cheap and trashy (I’m sorry Vivienne Westwood, I love you, but it’s true.) I know, I know, Viv is known for doing anything and everything on the runway, but Pamela Anderson, I’m going to have to say BAD CHOICE to the queen of punk and to stray away from the plastic, boob busting, non-fashion icon women of our crazed celebrity world.

Moda Italiana Di Bellismo

Italian Fashion-Innovation at its best. America better step it up. We’re known for being the inventors of sportswear, but Italy makes us look like amateurs. Big designers, big editors, big shoulder pads, big egos (well deserved I must add), it’s all about Milan fall ready-to-wear 2009 Fashion Week. Volume is key and an accent is a nice touch. Let me give you the 411. I’m dishin’ on the good stuff, and it just keeps on comin’.

D&G went vixen, “The Duchess” style channeling a Victorianesque look. Sculptural shapes played part and showed us the future of fashion in an 1800’s sense. Domenico and Stefano-bravo, I’m obsessed.

Dsquared took a different route on the runway and gave us a production. Models holding Starbucks lattes, smoking cigarettes and hiding behind their oversized sunglasses, made fun of our paparazzi crazed photos we all love so much. Dsquared is so inventive and they always give us excitement, which they gave us in this show. The clothes were very relaxed and casual. I’ve seen better from the lovely Dean and Dan Caten, but I think this is one of the first shows I can say was extremely wearable by a ton of women. Dsquared definitely stepped out of their box.

With an almost completely black color palette, Fendi made me wish I were Italian. With an elegant shoulder pad and furrier to the max, I’m doing my best to channel Fendi’s fabulous look.

Francesco Scognamiglio gave us a reason to celebrate partially unwearable yet stunning fashion. I’d wear it, but some people aren’t as stylish as me. His collection screamed geometric shapes and I was screaming for more.

Unfortunately, Italy isn’t in my travel plans for this year, but I’m crediting Style.com for its beautiful pictures and hoping they’ll read this nodding their heads in agreement.

While I’m in NYC getting my Italian and French fashion from boutiques and department stores, Milan better be keeping up with their part.

Italy get ready, because soon I’ll make my debut.

Recession Schmession, This year’s Oscar fashions weren’t played safe! I was jumping for joy as Hugh Jackman steals my attention with a fabulous opener. The fashion was widespread and better than it has been in awhile.

Freida Pinto looked mesmerizing in John Galliano. I was absolutely stunned by the shape, fabric, and the intricate beading. I have added this to my list of what designers should give me, so John-get to it.

It was great to see Rodarte on the red carpet. Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon both wore the fragile gowns designed by the Mulleavy sisters. Natalie Portman’s orchid pink dress was very beautiful, but I think would have looked even better in a lighter pink or a neutral tone. Reese’s gown flowed like water-a true reflection of Rodarte’s design aesthetic. Well done sisters, your Japanese horror film fetish has caught the public eye. 

SJP, your style is impeccable, but this Dior Haute Couture is better left in the way back of Carrie Bradshaw’s closet. Sarah Jessica Parker wasn’t at the top of my list, but she is too fabulous to not be on it.

Tilda Swinton in Lanvin and Meryl Streep in Alberta Ferratti both made great decisions on their choice of fashion. Very age appropriate and flattering girls-Diane Keaton take a tip from these two.  

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab Couture brought old Hollywood back and a taste of the ever so beautiful Grace Kelly. 

Leslie Mann looked gorgeous in Dolce and Gabbana. I am not the biggest fan of the full on mirrored look, but she looked A-List and it fit her body to a T. 

Every Oscar Show there has to be some disappointments. 

So let me begin with Amy Adams. Amy, you’re a classy lady, but you caught me by surprise in your choice of an unflattering gown by Carolina Herrera. The color and the mixed fabric material made me “Doubt” your fashion sense.

Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana, whatever your name is, come on now! Miley wore a gown by Zuhair Murad. The  dress was costumesque and you should be at least 10 years older. People think you’re somewhat talented, so quit with the bad style rep. You look like Mother Ginger (from the Nutcracker) about to unzip the bottom of her dress for the polichinelles to come out dance. 

Oscar Fashion wowed me this year. The Oscars are back on top. Let’s keep it that way.

I Want That and That and That

It seems to me that most designers have decided to play it safe this season. On the other hand, Jill Stuart went out of her comfort zone and made her soft aesthetic into a dark fantasy world.

Jill, you outdid yourself and fabulousity is hardly the word for it. With a color palette of black, white, and light pink, Jill Stuart brought me into a mirage of stunning silhouettes I would love to call my own. Like most of the designers, she brought a darker theme to Fashion Week, but she combined it with a Jill Stuartesque beauty. It was a secret garden filled with pink flowers and black thorns, that I wouldn’t mind getting pricked by. Lace, velvet, chiffon, and leather, it really doesn’t get much better. So while I matte on some thick, dark eyeliner, put on my chiffon ruffled dress, and black leather jacket, I’m going vixen chic and paying esteem to Jill Stuart.

Sadly, New York Fashion Week is over tomorrow. I will no longer be face to face with the clothing I love so dearly. I’m quite depressed, but lucky for you I’m reporting on everything type worthy I see. Fashion: It was love at first sight. Much Love Anna Wintour, but soon I’ll be calling all the shots.

Watch Out, She'll Teeze You

There's something about that runway surrounded by the most important people in fashion, those bright lights, and most essentially, the silhouettes that creates our outlook on this wonderful world we call fashion. 

Preen by Thorton Bregazzi showed how wondrous our world of fashion really is.  Kanye West seemed to think so too, as he sat front row.  Sexy and edgy fell into the categories that Preen surrounds itself with.  We saw a lot of black and white in the beginning of the show.  Herringbone prints from chiffon to tweed, and coats with fur all brought together this cohesive collection. The collection transitioned into an array of colors.  A beautiful lime green coat and accents of pinks and pastel blues made the rest of the collection a more subdued sexy.  

Miss Sixty was next on my list. With a Fantastic celeb following, Mischa Barton, Minka Kelly, Kristen Bell, and Coco Rocha sat front row.   Another edgy, rock n' roll genre, Miss Sixty gave us an 80's feel with black acid wash and a Roy Lichtenstein art influence.  If Jem was there she would scream, "Truly Outrageous." It was party girl meets punk.  It made me want to express myself as the material girl inside of me teezes my hair and rocks out to the Ramones.

Fashion makes my world go round and I can't stop spinning.

A Little Spice of Bamboo

Love was in the air on February 14th. My two loves were with me, my boyfriend and fashion-doesn't get much better than that.

I attended the United Bamboo Show on V-Day and was full of excitement to see the designers who made my fabulous prom dress (circa. 2006)-which I still wear to this day.  I spotted my favorite blogger, Susie Bubble, looking fabulous in neon yellow pants, a grey patent leather jacket and marni pumps, but let me move on to who I was there to see.  United Bamboo gave us a blast from the past and a trip into the future.  Combining high heeled oxfords with knee socks, we got a feeling of a 40's school girl.  With tweed jumpers, volumized lace blouses, and sequined dresses, we got a new versus old effect.  The collection was a combination of girly girl meets newsboy.  I adored the array of fabrics and how they were all used together. United Bamboo created a new Upper East Side socialite. So move over Blair Waldorf, you're not the only prim and proper driven New York girl.

There's Nothing Like It...Fashion Week F/W 2009

Fashion week is underway and my opinions are flying in every direction. The tents are alive with the sound of music, exotic models, stylish celebrities, talented editors, and gorgeous clothing. We all want a taste of this beauty that most people will never get a bite of.

Yigal Azrouel was the first show I attended. With boyfriend in arm and camera in hand I was ready to get rollin’ on my favorite celebration of the year. The celebration of innovative style. Yigal's cohesive collection paid tribute to the celebration showing very wearable garments from edgy to sophisticated. This floral chiffon showed a softer side of Azrouel by styling her with simple straight locks. This black and red lace piece gave us a more rock n’ roll vibe while still in an elegant manner. Yigal’s collection is for the woman who dresses for herself. She’s stared at as she walks the streets of New York and Milan, but doesn’t even know it.

Oh the Ronson’s-Samantha, Charlotte, and Mark. It was a family affair with younger sister Annabelle on the runway and mother Anne Dexter-Jones in the audience. Lindsay Lohan was front row with the fam sitting diagonally from me (I was in the front row too). It was Charlotte in the spotlight today as her fall collection strutted down the runway. She went along with a common theme of edginess and rock n’ roll, but with a very girly attitude.  Navy’s, dark purples, blacks, and splashes of coral and green made the colors of Charlotte’s collection. It’s unfortunate, but Charlotte’s collection didn’t scream innovation. I felt as If I had seen some of it before. With touches of plaid, florals and leather it’s great for that young girl ready to take over the town. Congrats Char on your new collection, but let’s fire it up on the creativity.
